Fantastic Mr Fox

[ Monday, 9 November 2009 | 0 comments ]
What the cuss! Fantastic Mr Fox is kind of fantastic! (sorry it had to be said) I saw the film last week and it didn't disappoint. I love Wes Anderson films, The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou especially but his new film still has his unique charm captured in stop motion animation. I'm sure I used to be scared when I read Roald Dahl's book when I was little, perhaps had it in my head Mr Fox was more like the wolf in Little Red Riding Hood, but like many people I grew up reading Roald Dahl stories. Wes Anderson's take on the story is great, he's made it clever and modern and an interesting part of the film is recognising the different actors' voices, particularly Franklin Bean and Mr Badger. ***** 5 Stars

Halloween Project: Panda Sequin Mask

[ Saturday, 31 October 2009 | 0 comments ]
Here is the result of my Halloween themed project. I picked up a few blank white animal masks to decorate. I chose the bear mask and decided to turn it into a cute panda by adding sequins around the eyes, nose, ears and mouth. Simple yet effective! I especially love the sequin nose as it makes it look like the panda has a big wet nose!

Swedish Singer: Lykke Li

[ Friday, 30 October 2009 | 0 comments ]

Loving not only the music of Swedish pop/indie singer Lykke Li but the album and single artwork is gorgeous! Her voice is so unique and the track 'possibility' for the upcoming Twilight Saga: New Moon film captures the haunting melancholy mood beautifully. I love the Little Bit EP artwork with the collage and floral paper cut outs. When I first saw it I thought it had a very Marie Antoinette vibe, like wearing a powdered wig ready to go to a masked ball.

Oiseau Noir- Tweet Tweet

[ Tuesday, 20 October 2009 | 1 comments ]
Last week I popped into Habitat to have a browse and saw them starting to display their Christmas decorations and couldn't resist. I bought this black bird with gorgeous feathers, the long tail feathers have a beautiful green iridescent sheen when they catch the light.

I remember a while ago when VV rouleaux was still in Glasgow (*sniff* wish it hadn't moved!) they had decorative birds but they were quite small and with glitter which can look a bit tacky. But in Habitat they also have other ones in different colours, the black was my favourite as it's not necessarily for Christmas. It would also look great incorporated into a Halloween costume but I just love it as it's different! Oh and has entertainment value to torment my cats! >_<

Invercottage- Glasgow Craft Mafia Market

[ Sunday, 18 October 2009 | 1 comments ]
For some reason blogger can't post most of my photos, in the meantime I've put them all up on my flickr account, so please check them out here and I will update this post asap.

Yesterday was the fantastic Glasgow Craft Mafia market at Invercottage, in a beautiful setting on Loch Fyne. I had an early start catching the ferry from Gourock across to Dunoon, quite a novelty catching a ferry to a craft market! Felt like a travelling saleswoman with my little case packed with my products. Thankfully it was a beautiful day, smooth crossing but bitterly cold once got onto the water. I met the lovely Jean from the Rainbow Effect who gave me a lift and then it was off to Invercottage, a very scenic route along Argyll's countryside. The rising mist was very eerie yet amazing especially on the Loch as the water was like a mirror and then the gorgeous autumn colours of the surrounding trees, a photographer's dream!

Invercottage restaurant, shop and coffee house was such a lovely setting, looking out across to a castle ruins and there were even a few, we were debating where brave or dumb, kids swimming in the Loch! Lots of people came out to see the Craft Mafia event aswell as Invercottage being a popular spot for its' amazing food, so the market was very successful. You can see more photos here.
From doing the markets in Farr, Inverness, I much prefer these local craft markets in the countryside. Everyone was so friendly and had some great feedback on my work. Perhaps because all the stalls showed high quality products, nicely packaged and presented in interesting ways, it was a nice change to stereotypical craft markets. I caught the ferry back to Gourock, feeling very happy as the light turned from twilight to evening.
